Eight CMA students volunteered and built two timing booths for the Special Olympic Games next winter

The Olympics. To an athlete it is the highest honor and most esteemed competition. A chance to not only demonstrate abilities, but bask in the glory and pride that one’s talent brings to their country. For people with intellectual disabilities The Special Olympics offers the honor and glory, but most importantly it allows these distinctive Olympians the chance to do something extraordinary.

Next February, Boise will play host to The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Special needs athletes, eight years old and over, from all over the world will congregate here for the momentous international event.

Steve Trimble, a representative from The Special Olympics, needed some help in a rush and called upon Boise State. Neil Smart, President of Boise State Construction Management, a university organization, lead a team of eight volunteers in building two timing booths for the games next winter. | more

They could have thrown a party, bought club jackets and still had enough cash to charter a plane to the Bahamas. Instead, construction management students at Boise State University decided to give $20,000 in donations their association has received over the years back to the university.| More

BSU Construction Management Teams Receive Honors in Regional Competition

Boise State Construction Management teams placed 2nd and 3rd in two divisions at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Inter-Scholastic Regional Competition and Conference held February 7 – 10 in Reno, NV. The teams placed in the Design-Build Division (2nd) and the Residential Division (3rd). Boise State entered teams in five other divisions including Heavy Civil, Mechanical, Marine, Commercial, and LEED (green building). Teams competed against top western schools including Colorado State, Arizona State, the Air Force Academy, Brigham Young University, and other programs from Montana to New Mexico. | More
