Activity Descriptions
The Incredible Edible Aquifer
Build your own edible aquifer out of ice cream, chocolate chips, and gummy bears! Learn how ground water is stored in aquifers, how what we do can affect our ground water and drinking water, and how good engineering and science helps keep our water clean. Sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers and students and Civil Engineering faculty and students.
MiniBaja and MicroBaja
Learn about vehicles that mechanical engineering students design and build for regional competitions. Sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Inverted Pendulum and Segway
Learn about the Segway, a self-balancing, personal transportation vehicle that uses computerized gyroscopes and tilt sensors to maintain balance and make riding fun! Sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Hydro Turbine
Learn about how a hydro turbine works, as mechanical engineering students demonstrate their class project. Sponsored by the Mechanical Engineering Society.
Build a Bridge
Demonstrating software, which allows students to design a bridge and then test to see if it would succeed or fail. Participants can review the components of their bridge to make modifications and improvements. Sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Wind Tunnel and AeroDesign
Experience the breeze of Boise State’s wind tunnel, which tests aerodynamic shapes, lift and drag, how models of buildings behave in wind, and how air flows around scale models. In addition, the remote controlled airplane designed and built by mechanical engineering students. Sponsored by the Mechanical Engineering Society.
Bomb Squad Robot
Learn how useful robots are to the local police. See a robot that is used by the bomb squad. Sponsored by the Boise Police Department.
