Engineering 120 Electrical & Computer Engineering Module
Unit Overview-Student Materials
Electrical and Computer engineers are involved in a broad range of activities which all start with a basic understanding of the physics of electricity and magnetism. Engineers apply this knowledge to solve practical problems in a variety of areas ranging from semiconductor design and processing, circuit design, computer engineering and power systems.
Unit Objectives
- Recognize the symbols for basic circuit elements, including resistors, capacitors, diodes, and transistors
- Build a variety of circuits on a breadboard
- Apply Ohm’s Law and Kirchhoff’s Laws to simple circuits
- Interpret a schematic wiring diagram for a simple circuit
- Use basic tools to operate the Matlab software.
- Apply basic filter elements and concepts to design a filter in Matlab.
- Choose filter design constraints and understand how these constraints affect audio sounds.
- Understand the basic operation of an oscilloscope and a signal generator
- Use an oscilloscope to characterize the frequency response of two, 2nd order active-filter circuits
