The MSE department at Boise State is a student-centered department with broad-based education in all aspects of materials science and engineering.
Undergraduate programs
Undergraduate students are offered a personal and experimental experience in learning. Our department offers:
Want to learn more about a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering?
Want to learn more about a Minor in Materials Science and Engineering?
Want to learn more about our new Biomedical Engineering minor?
Graduate programs
Our graduate program offers educational and research opportunities in a variety of materials science fields, many of which include other engineering, science and medical disciplines. Current research opportunities include:
- semiconductors
- Micro Electrical Mechanical Systems (MEMS)
- surface science
- polymers
- magnetic materials
- materials chemistry
- metals and alloys
- electronic and optical materials
- materials characterization
- ceramics
- biomaterials
- biomimetics
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering offers two distinct graduate degrees. The program leading to the Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering is a thesis-based program designed to prepare students for research and development and further study at the doctoral level. The program leading to the Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering is a non-thesis program with a focus on professional development. Both programs are interdisciplinary and involve faculty members from the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences with expertise in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, and biology.
