What is academic/career advising?
Academic and career advising are the processes by which you receive help in forming your educational and career goals, and in planning ways to achieve those goals. Based on your individual circumstances, personal development, and academic skills, advisors can provide information and support that will ultimately help you achieve your goals.
Academic and career advising at Boise State are integrated because there is a strong relationship for most students between their educational and career goals. Academic and career advising include:
- degree planning, including introduction to and explanation of academic requirements, policies, and procedures
- exploration of necessary skills
- referral to campus resources
- career exploration, information and preparation
- ongoing contact with an informed and supportive representative of the community
Advisors can suggest courses to enhance your degree, offer opportunities for experience outside the classroom, and help you get connected with experts in the field you are pursuing.
