Announcing two new Graduate Research Assistant positions:

Characterization and Numerical Modeling of Sustainable Infrastructure Materials

This area will be interdisciplinary, possibly spanning civil engineering, infrastructure materials, large-scale numerical computation, image analysis, and engineering mechanics. The advisor will guide the student to identify a research topic most suitable to the student’s academic interests and background. The successful candidate will enter the Master’s Degree program in the Department, starting fall 2013 or spring 2014. A research assistantship is available, which includes a complete tuition waiver plus a stipend per semester that may be renewable based on satisfactory performance. The Department of Civil Engineering offers two distinct graduate degree programs.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MS CE) is a program of study that includes a research component and culminates in a thesis that represents an original
contribution to knowledge in civil engineering. This course of study prepares students for future work in industry or doctoral studies.

The Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering (MEngr CE) is a non-thesis program of study that allows students to take advanced coursework in their area of expertise to support their professional development.

Most of our courses are taught at 7:40 am or after 4:30 pm in the evening to allow working students to attend.

Students may focus their studies in a variety of areas including Environmental, Hydrologic and Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. Students are encouraged to contact individual faculty members to discuss potential thesis topics and graduate research assistantships.

We also offer an interdisciplinary Master of Science in Hydrologic Sciences that is administered through the Geosciences Department. This course of study is similar to the MS CE, but allows the student to take more classes outside of Civil Engineering.

Students may also be interested in the Master of Community and Regional Planning program.
