Application Procedures
A prospective student may apply at any time following the general graduate application procedure for degree-seeking students (see Applying as a Degree-Seeking Student in the Graduate Catalog available at: http://registrar.boisestate.edu/Catalogs/index.htm ). The applicant must also (1) submit a statement of purpose to the department graduate program coordinator, and (2) arrange to have GRE General Test scores submitted by the Educational Testing Service (www.ets.org) directly to Boise State University (code R4018). The statement of purpose should give the educational and professional background of the student and his or her motivation for graduate study including career goals, and area of interest. Applicants holding a degree from the College of Engineering of Boise State University are not required to submit GRE scores. International students must arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted directly by the references to the Boise State University International Admissions Office.
Program of Study
Once granted Regular or Provisional status, students will work with their advisors to develop their programs of study. To document the study plan, one must complete a Program Development Form. You must complete the form within the first academic period (fall semester, spring semester, or summer session)of enrollement.
Student Responsibility
It is the responsibility of every student to become familiar with the rules and policies in effect at the time the student first enrolls in the graduate studies program. Students should also initiate discussions with their academic advisor regarding scheduling the necessary examinations in accordance with departmental and Graduate College regulations.
Advising
Each student must be advised prior to registering for classes. Faculty advisors are assigned by the Graduate Program Coordinator in consultation with the graduate student and the faculty in the program area. The student is responsible for meeting with his/her faculty advisor regarding coursework, examinations, and his/her Program of Study.
Applying for Candidacy
Master's level students should apply for candidacy as soon as possible after completing 18 credits of graduate work. Your grade-point average for those 18 credits must be at least 3.00 on a 4.00-point scale. In addition, you must have no listed credit deficiencies. Transfer Credit
A student may transfer up to 9 semester hours of graduate credit completed at another university, or up to 15 credit hours if earned at the University of Idaho or Idaho State University. Letter grades of B or better are required. Transfer credit is subject to review and acceptance by the Department Graduate Program Coordinator and the Dean of the Graduate College. Transfer credits must be listed on your Program Development Form and your Application for Admission to Candidacy.
