The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) organizes an annual Steel Bridge competition. Each year AISC releases new rules on the specification how the Steel Bridge should be designed, fabricated, and constructed. Generally, the bridge is between 17 to 20 feet long and about 1 to 2 feet tall. Members of the Steel Bridge team will learn how to work with steel, weld, and possibly learn how to machine steel. The Steel Bridge Competition is a way to get industry related experience.
The Boise State Bridge Team does all of the design and fabrication in house meaning that Boise State students will design, cut, grind, weld, and machine all of the parts of the bridge. Most of the fabrication is done inside of the Henry Morrison Civil Engineering Building (HML). The team then gets to travel to the regional conference and compete against other universities. The conference is great for networking opportunities, getting to know your fellow engineers, and to have fun!
