Performance
The employer, student intern and the Construction Management faculty member coordinating the internship shall fulfill the responsibilities listed on the “Application for Internship” form for the student intern to receive academic credit.
Student Responsibility
Once registration is completed and classes begin, it is the responsibility of the student to complete the requirements of the Internship.
- During the course of work on the Internship, the student will be further required to complete all of the following requirements, as agreed upon between the coordinating faculty member and the student:
- Keep a daily log of his/her work activities in a hardbound journal;
- Preparation of a weekly or biweekly report detailing the job duties, learning opportunities, and progress of the internship. Weekly or biweekly report requirements are established with the coordinating faculty member at the beginning of the term. Weekly or biweekly reports are due to the coordinating faculty member the Monday following the end of the period covered. Reports may be submitted in person, by mail, by fax or electronically as agreed upon.
- At the end of the term, the student will submit to the coordinating faculty member, a final report on the student internship activities including a perspective by the student on how the internship did or did not meet the defined criteria and expectations. Special emphasis should be given to how the internship experience supplemented the coursework experience.
- Grades will be based on the quality and scholarship of the completed work and will be determined by the coordinating faculty member who directed the study through the evaluation of the daily logs, weekly or biweekly reports and the final report.
Faculty Responsibility
- Evaluate and respond to each report submitted by the student intern in a timely manner.
- Evaluate the internship by comparing the plan of study to the reports, the daily log and the final report submitted by the student intern at the end of the term.
- If schedule and location allow, the faculty member will visit the jobsite location and meet with the student intern and the employer supervisor at least once during the term.
