Joshua Martin – Chair
MarCon, Inc
Joshua is a December 2007 graduate of the CM program. While attending the program he interned at Skanska USA as a Project Engineer, ACHD as a Development Reviewer, Wright Brothers as an Assistant Superintendent, and was the Construction Management Associations President. During his term as the chapter’s President the organization won such awards as “Student Organization of the Year, Outstanding Academic Organization of the Year, and the National AGC “Outstanding Student Chapter” second place award. Before attending BSU, Joshua worked as an Electrical Apprentice for Romar Electric and All American Electric. While sitting as a member of the Departments Advisory Board, he is also the President of the BSU CM Alumni Association, Secretary of the Construction Leadership Council, member of the AGC’s Highway Committee, and Chair of the CM Alumni Association Annual Golf Tournament. He currently works for MarCon Inc. where he has been a Project Manager for the past 5 years.

Joshua grew up in Parma where he met his wife. They now have a son, Rowen (3), and live in Meridian.

Alex Rountree – Vice Chair
Granite Construction Company
Alex Rountree is currently the Public Works Manager for Granite Construction Company in Utah.  Granite is one of the nation’s largest diversified heavy civil contractors and construction materials producers.  Alex began his career with Granite in 2001, upon graduating from Boise State’s Construction Management Program in 2000, as a project engineer and quickly became a project manager running millions of dollars of work each year.  From 2008 – 2010, Alex was promoted to Area Manager in Ogden, Utah where he oversaw the $30+ million vertically integrated business.  In 2011, Granite went through a market restructure and asked Alex to work out of the Salt Lake office and focus on public works for the entire State of Utah.  In this new and complex role, Alex oversees 10 engineers responsible for bidding, building, and managing over $60 million worth of projects annually.

Alex resides in Syracuse, Utah and is married to Stacy Sodorff, also a Boise State graduate.  Together they have three children, son’s Carson (8) and Burke (5) and daughter Tylee (2).

David Cram
Materials Testing & Inspection
David is the general manager and president of Materials Testing & Inspection, a regional consulting engineering firm specializing in the areas of environmental services, geotechnical engineering, and construction testing and inspections. He’s been with the firm since 1989, has been part owner since 1997, and has helped to expand operations to six offices in three states as of 2012.  When not managing and leading the company, his technical expertise is focused in the areas of geotechnical foundation engineering, pavement design, and construction materials analysis.  Notable local projects he’s worked on include the Bank of America Centre, BoDo Development, State II of the WYE, Royal Plaza, The Aspen, and Washington Mutual Building, just to name a few.  David is a native of the area having grown up on a farm near Melba, Idaho, and attended Boise State University and University of Idaho.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Idaho.  When not working at MTI, which is a rare occasion, you can find him in the Owyhee mountains riding anything with a motor and working on a cabin in Silver City, Idaho.  He’s married with 2 children and goes everywhere with them.

Anna Ellis
CM Company
Anna is a Project Manager and Partner at CM Company, Inc., a Construction Management Firm and General Contracting firm, which provides services throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington and California.  She began working with the firm while attending Boise State University’s Construction Management Program in 2000 as in intern, and was hired as a Project Manager after Graduation in 2003.  Since then she has acted as a project manager and an owners representative throughout a multitude of projects in Idaho and Oregon.  Anna has been a partner since 2008.  Notable local projects she has managed include:  Rocky Mountain High School, South Junior High School, Ontario School District 8C Bond Projects, Garden Valley K-12 School.  Idaho Central Credit Union Branches to name a few.  Anna was born and raised in Boise Idaho and attended Boise State University as well as the University of Idaho.  Outside of the Construction Project, you will find Anna running or mountain biking in the Boise Foothills or waterskiing or snowboarding, with the weather allows.  She loves to travel and experience new cultures around the world.  Anna is also a Charter Member of the Boise Centennial Rotary Club since 2007 and served as the Club President in 2011 and the Group Study Exchange Chair for Rotary District 5400 in 2010 and 2011. 

Chuck Graves
McAlvain Construction, Inc
Chuck is currently the President of McAlvain Construction, Inc. and McAlvain Design Build, Inc. , which provide General Contracting, Construction Management, Construction Management at Risk and Design Build services throughout the Western United States.  With over 26 years of experience within the industry, he has an extensive background in all aspects of construction delivery methods across the government, institutional, high-tech semiconductor, telecommunication, industrial and commercial business sectors.  He has worked all over North America on a multitude of projects the largest of which exceed $1 billion dollars.  Chuck is a licensed Construction Manager within the State of Idaho, holds multiple GC Licenses in several states and has been associated with the Boise State CM Program since 2006.

Pete Griesmyer – Past Chair
POWER Engineers, Inc

Pete is Department Manager of the Project Scheduling and Project Controls at POWER Engineers.  He is responsible for the development & implementation of schedule and project control policies, procedures, reporting systems and formats. He is also responsible for development of detailed integrated cost/schedule control and detailed CPM Logic network schedules for projects, development and maintenance of project cost/schedule control/analysis/forecasting systems including work breakdown structures, earned value analysis, trend analysis, profitability forecasting and cash analysis reporting on multiple projects.  Pete has been with the Advisory Board since 1996 and received the department’s Thirty in Thirty Award, for contributions made to the Construction Management Department during the 1st 30 years of the Program in 2011. Pete has over 32 years of engineering / construction experience after getting his civil /environmental engineering degree from Clarkson University. His experience covers projects in industrial, manufacturing, environmental, power, commercial, and institutional.

Pete is currently the Chair of the AACE (The Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International) Education Board and was the Lead Editor for the Association’s Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) Certification Study Guide 1st Edition, 2008,  Co-author – AACE International’s Recommended Practice  – Project Planning as Applied in Engineering and Construction for Capital Projects RP- 39R-06 – 2011. Pete also received the Association’s OT Zimmerman’s Founders Award for outstanding service to the organization in 2006.

David Holman
Northwest Technologies, Inc
David is a Graduate of the BSU Construction Management Program.  He has been in the construction business for 40+ years and is a retired Chief Master Sergeant having served in the US Air Force and Air National Guard.  David has worked as a Project Manager for Ovard/Collins Construction and Hunter Saucerman Construction in Idaho Falls.  He also worked as the Assistant Executive Director of the Idaho Associated General Contractors.  David started Northwest Technologies Inc., a construction management company that specializes in government related construction projects, in 1988. He is President and majority owner of Northwest Technologies.  David has been associated with the Boise CM program since graduation and has been a member of the Advisory Board since 2004.


Laura Knothe

Exergy New Energy
Laura Knothe, PE, co-founded The New Energy Company in Idaho in 2008.  This company combined forces with Exergy Development Group to form Exergy New Energy which develops and provides project management services for renewable energy projects that convert biomass into energy.  These projects significantly benefit all stakeholders including industry, neighbors and investors while enhancing the environment and the local economy.  Laura is a licensed professional engineer with a civil engineering degree from Montana State University and has 20 years of experience providing project development, design and construction management in the renewable energy, industrial and institutional industries.

 

Bruce Larabee
URS – Washington Division
Mr. Larabee has more than 39 years of construction, estimating and design experience. He has field experience constructing buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels, underground mines and nuclear waste repositories. In his 25 years of estimating experience with URS, he has priced earthwork, structures, buildings, highways, bridges, light rail transit, monorail construction, concrete and earth-fill dams, industrial buildings, open pit mines, Superfund site reclamation, industrial site clean-up, DOE and private low-level nuclear waste repositories and DOD chemical weapons incinerators.

 

 

Garry Mattson
Idaho AGC
Garry graduated with a degree in Construction Management from Boise State.  He began his career as an intern for Morrison-Knudson during college and later worked in heavy highway and bridge rehabilitation in Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Utah and currently in Idaho.  Most of his career has been in heavy highway construction in various capacities as estimator, project manager, division manager, and as vice-president.  He is currently employed with Central Paving Company in Boise.  Garry has dedicated nearly thirty years to working in the construction industry.  He has been involved with the Associated General Contractors in various capacities, while at BSU as secretary of the award winning student chapter, in Tennessee, Utah and now in Idaho serving as the current Vice President of the Idaho AGC.  Garry has been an Advisory Board Member since 2007.   He enjoys spending time with his family in the mountains camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing and riding dirt bikes.

Jeff Miller
Layton Construction Company, Inc
Jeff has more than twenty five years of progressive experience in the construction industry obtaining and managing projects of up to 100 million dollars.  He has managed the Southern California branch office of an ENR rated top 400 general contractor, and been responsible for all projects and personnel.  Jeff opened a new branch office in New Mexico while maintaining the Los Angeles office.  Started his own company in Boise, Idaho and was then hired by an ENR top 100 general contractor to open a local office, do business development and manage projects.  He is experienced in all aspects of construction to include bidding, buyout, contract negotiation, project control, supervision, marketing and multi project administration.


Neil Nelson

Engineered Structures, Inc
Neil is a graduate of BSU’s Construction Management program and  President and co-owner of Engineered Structures Inc. (ESI), Idaho’s largest privately held general contractor.

A Construction Management graduate of BSU, Neil  began working for ESI as  a Project Manager, at a time when company revenues were around $20 Million.  Neil quickly demonstrated his ability to foster company growth and enhance  internal  operations,  ascending to the position of Executive Vice President, and soon thereafter President and Owner.

Today ESI  sees average annual volumes around $250 Million and is ranked no. 18 on Idaho’s Private 75, an annual list of Idaho’s most successful privately held companies.  The company is licensed in 41 states and employees 200 full time professionals across the nation.
Neil is a licensed Idaho Construction Manager and  Board Member of the BSU Foundation and Construction Management Advisory Board.  Neil holds a Top Secret Clearance from the Department of Defense and was recognized as one of Idaho’s Top Forty under Forty in 2010.  In his spare time, Neil enjoys hunting, biking and coaching Optimist football and lacrosse.

Bob Scott
Quality Electric, Inc
Bob is the retired General Manager of Quality Electric in Boise, at times the largest electrical contractor in the state.  He still serves the company as a consultant and member of its Board of Directors.  In addition to the BSU CM board, Bob serves as the chairman of the Idaho State Electrical Board, is on the Board of Directors and is a past Governor of the Idaho chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), and is a trustee of the five state IBEW electricians self-funded health insurance plan.  He began his electrical apprenticeship in 1970 after graduating from Parma High School, fighting forest fires, and serving in the Marine Corps, and has over 40 years experience in the electrical industry as an apprentice, journeyman, foreman, general foreman, superintendant, project manager, apprentice and journeyman instructor, and company officer.  He and his wife Barbara have one daughter, Sunny, and her husband, Andrew MacFarland.

Bill Slaybaugh
Heery International, Inc
Heery International is a multi-disciplined organizations specializing in Program Management, Project Management, Construction Management, Construction, Architecture, Equipment Planning and Logistics, and Commissioning. I have been with Heery for the past 18 years and am currently the West Region Director of Construction Services with oversight of projects within the Western 13 states.  Our major project focus relates to Aviation, Healthcare, Sports Facilities, Schools, Justice Facilities, and Military Energy Programs.  I have a degree in Construction Management from the University of Washington and have been an Advisory Board Member for the past six years, currently holding the position of board Secretary.
