Abstract:
The promises of Artificial Intelligence seem to have no end, ranging from self-driving cars to fully capable digital personal assistants. To make these intelligent systems useful, they must interact in a natural way with their human users; that is, in the most natural way that humans interact with each other: through spoken language. In this talk, I will explain the state-of-the-art in speech-driven systems (e.g., Siri and Alexa), the challenges, and how my research in spoken dialogue systems and semantics improves the interface between humans and artificial systems.
