Abstract: Industrial Control Systems (ICSs) have a vital role in the automation of critical infrastructures such as nuclear power plants, dams, oil and gas industries, etc. Therefore, verification of control strategies with regard to safety and security is essential in these systems.
ICSs safety and security requirements have evolved with the development of computer technology and convenience of the Internet in connecting different devices. The first and second generation of ICSs had limited or no connections with other devices so they were only considered as safety-critical systems. The next generation of ICSs became more dependent on computers and Internet; hence they were exposed to cyber attacks.
