Computer Science

Computer Science Alumni SurveyClick to take the Survey

Computer Science is a discipline concerned with the study of computing with purposes of programming, automating tasks, creating tools to enhance productivity, etc. Computer Science provides tools that are central in exploring and solving problems in engineering, biology, finance and many other disciplines.

The Computer Science main office is located on the second floor of the Engineering & Technology building (ET 240). Students and visitors are encouraged to visit us.

The Department of Computer Science offers two programs of study. At the undergraduate level, students can acquire a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or choose it as a minor. At the graduate level, they can obtain a Master of Science in Computer Science.

Attention Students!  The Computer Science Department may offer a summer section of CompSci 125 (Introduction to Computer Science) this summer.  This course teaches data and procedure abstraction as well as problem solving techniques, recursive algorithms, basic searching, and sorting techniques.  An introduction to object-based programming and the software development process (specification, design, stepwise refinement) is also covered.

If you are interested in attending this course this summer, please send us an email (no later than May 9th) at office@cs.boisestate.edu.  The course will only be offered if a sufficient number of students enroll.

Note: Students with no prior programming experience should consider taking either CompSci 120 or CompSci 119 prior to taking this course.  Prerequisites include one of the following:  MATH 144, MATH 147, MATH 160, or satisfactory math placement score.

  BS in Computer Science

  Minor in Computer Science

  MS in Computer Science

The department's BS program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
