The Department of Computer Science at Boise State University invites applications for an open-rank, tenured/tenure-track position in critical infrastructure cyber security, starting Fall 2017. The successful candidate will work with the Cyber Lab for Industrial Control Systems (CLICS) laboratory hosted in the CS department. The CLICS lab is currently being formed in collaboration with Idaho National Laboratory, an established leader in industrial process control cyber security. CLICS has also established partnerships with Honeywell, General Electric, Idaho Power, Idaho Transportation Department, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Suez Water, and others. The CLICS lab will support research and education in exploring operation and security of process control systems for critical infrastructure
The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of cyber security and its applications to control and automation of industrial control systems. This includes a background in interconnected power system operation (smart grid), communication mechanisms, software-defined network switches, and simulation models of a high speed generator for Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) for hardware-in-the-loop testing. The candidate is expected to support the CLICS lab’s research focus on emerging technologies in support of operational security control. This includes vulnerability assessments, diagnosing internet/extranet security, intrusion attempts, incident responses, forensic analysis, and coordination of disaster recovery. Moreover, the selected candidate will help in establishing graduate and undergraduate training programs in the area of industrial control cyber security.
Preference will be given to candidates with background in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) and expertise with all types with common security tools and products, i.e. Security Information and Event Management, vulnerability management, data loss prevention, content filtering, eDiscovery, anti-virus, firewalls, malware analysis and protection, intrusion defense/prevention systems, forensics, identity and access management.
Applicants should have a commitment to excellence in teaching and a desire to make significant contributions in research by collaborating with government agencies, faculty, and industry. Senior applicants should have an established track record of research, teaching, and external funding. A PhD in CS with relevant background in power systems or a PhD in EE with sufficient background in computer science, is required at the time of appointment. US Citizenship is preferred for this position.
