John is Associate Vice President for Energy Research, Policy and Campus Sustainability at Boise State University where he has been a faculty member in Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering since 2000. He currently coordinates sustainability efforts for the Boise State campus and maintains a research program in the area of energy storage for renewable energy integration. Prof Gardner received his Bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University in 1981, and his MS and Ph.D. (all in Mechanical Engineering) from Ohio State in 1983 and 1987, respectively. He has published more than 40 referred research papers and 2 textbooks and is a registered professional engineer in Idaho and Pennsylvania. Prior to his appointment at Boise State, Dr. Gardner spent 13 years on the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University in University Park where his research in dynamic systems and controls led to publications in diverse fields from railroad freight car dynamics to adaptive control of artificial hearts.
