Dr. George A. Murgel joined the Department of Civil Engineering in the Fall of 1996 and has played an important role in the development of the undergraduate and graduate engineering programs at Boise State University. He came to BSU from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he was an assistant professor.
Dr. Murgel earned BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, respectively, from Montana State University in 1976 and 1978. He completed his Ph.D. at Cornell University in 1995 in Environmental Engineering and has been a licensed Professional Engineer in Montana since 1982.
He has over 15 years of experience in water and wastewater system design and construction and water quality studies for projects ranging in size from individual onsite septic systems and small subdivision systems to multi-million dollar treatment system expansions. He has been involved in projects in environmental and aquatic chemistry, biotechnology, hydraulics, hydrology and water resources investigations, both as field-based and/or office-based design, construction and modeling activities.
Dr. Murgel teaches courses in environmental engineering and process chemistry, water and wastewater treatment system design, hydraulics, hydrology, and introductory surveying. He is developing additional courses in aquatic chemistry and advanced wastewater treatment systems. He is also beginning development of an environmental research program in some of the same areas.
