Assistantships

Departmentally-funded assistantships are given to fulltime, regular-status (not provisional) graduate students studying at Boise State (generally not to new/incoming students). To be considered please email ece@boisestate.edu with the following info:

(1) Name
(2) Student ID
(3) Number of credits in which they are currently enrolled
(4) Specific interests in research area, class, or professor

Graduate Thesis and Project Grading

All graduate thesis and project credits will be graded Pass/Fail with an IP (In Progress) grade given until such time as the student successfully defends or withdraws from the program.

Policies concerning non-lecture graduate courses in ECE

  • 590, 592, 594, 595, 598 – credit not allowed towards meeting graduate degree requirements
  • 596 (independent study) – no more than three semester credits aggregate can be used in a graduate program (and only after approval by the student’s advisor and the department chair). To add a section of ECE 596, the student must complete the application form for independent study at: http://www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/ by clicking on the “Forms” menu item on the left side of this webpage. Once the form has been signed by the professor, advisor, and program coordinator, the student should bring it to the ECE office, ET 240, where a digital copy will be added to the student’s file and the original will be forwarded to the graduate dean. The grad college will process the application and add the appropriate section of ECE 596.

Practicum/Internship

When taking ECE590, students must send their faculty advisor weekly emails summarizing their work and write a 15 page final report (5 pages per credit if taking less than 3 credits).

The industry supervisor will be required to provide a written evaluation of the internship. Internships are graded Pass/Fail. Note that a graduate intern is expected to perform at a higher level than an undergraduate intern.

International students in the College of Engineering planning to participate in a full-time internship must:

  • demonstrate significant progress towards his/her degree (to be determined by supervising professor/advisor)
  • have completed at least 24 credits, unless otherwise approved by the supervising professor/advisor
  • be eligible to graduate within the year
  • limit the full-time internship to one year

For questions concerning international student participation in internships please direct questions to the International Programs Office at 426-2630.
