Yanliang Zhang is the director of Advanced Energy Lab in Boise State University.

Dr. Zhang spent over one year in industry after he completed Ph.D. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2011. During his career at GMZ Energy, Inc., Dr. Zhang was the principle investigator for several significant research projects, including an $11 million DOE funded project on automotive waste heat recovery. Dr. Zhang developed advanced thermoelectric systems for several groundbreaking applications, and filed three patents during his one-year stay in industry.

After Dr. Zhang joined Boise State University in February 2013, he has been the principle investigator for multiple projects funded by both government and industry. Dr. Zhang’ lab has established close collaborations with researchers from national lab and industry across broad disciplines. Dr. Zhang is pursuing an “Atomic to System Engineering” approach to close the gap between discovery and deployment. His ultimate goal is to make his research benefit the society and create a clean and sustainable future.

Dr. Zhang’s research work has been published on high-impact journals, including Nature Materials, Nano Letters, Applied Physics Letters, et al.
