The kickoff of the 2019 season was January 5, 2019. Several area teams, including The Chickadees, attended the kickoff event at Boise State University for the launch of this year’s game, DESTINATION: DEEP SPACE Presented by the Boeing Company.
The space themed game will require teams to load cargo into their rockets and cargo ship and secure the cargo with hatch panels. A new element this year is the sandstorm, which will block teams’ views of their robots for the first 15 seconds of the match. An animated explanation of the 2019 game is available on YouTube.
The FRC Idaho Regional will be March 27 through March 30 at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.
Chickadees Information Night: Thursday, May 24, 2018

Robot Stolen from Team 115, MVRT, Monta Vista High School
UPDATE 3/7/2018: Team 115’s stolen robot was found in a yard several miles from the hotel from which it was stolen. The robot has been recovered.
Following the Utah Regional, the trailer containing FRC Team 115’s robot was stolen from the parking lot of the hotel at which the team was staying in West Valley City, Utah. The team searched the area for the trailer, but it has not been found.
In addition to the material loss of the robot and tools used to build it, the theft is a devastating loss of the time and effort the team has put into the build for this season, jeopardizing their ability to compete at the Boise Regional later this month. FIRST has graciously allowed Team 115 to build another robot, but with only three weeks until the Boise competition, both time and raising of funds for replacement parts and tools are short.
Team 115 remains hopeful in finding their original robot, the El Toro XXI. The thieves may not have stayed in the West Valley City/Salt Lake City area. A blue pickup truck, which was also stolen, was hitched to the team’s U-Haul trailer. If you notice either of these vehicles that may be involved in the theft or the robot itself, please contact West Valley City Police’s non-emergency dispatch at 801-840-4000.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation to Team 115, please consider making a tax deductible donation to their school associated student body store at their Robotics Club donation page. Secure donations may be made via PayPal. If you are interested in donating tools or materials to help them rebuild their robot, please email the team at email@example.com. You may learn more at MVRT at www.mvrt.com.

UPDATE ABOUT WORK SPACE: DECEMBER 2016
On Saturday, December 4, at approximately 7:00PM, there was a structure fire at 1021 Manitou Avenue, the building where we meet, work, and store everything for the team. We also share this work space with another Boise State student team. Most, if not all, of our things have been lost to fire and water damage. This includes our robots. No one from either team was there when the fire began, and no one was injured.
We are hopeful that insurance money will help us recover most of what we lost. At this point, we are working on purchasing components for a new robot so that we can continue to build and learn for the remainder of the workshops this month before Kickoff. If you are interested in donating to the team to help us in this effort, you can do so in one of two ways:
(1) Send Norma Arechiga a check made out to the Boise State Foundation with “Chickadees Robotics” in the memo to Attn: Norma Arechiga, Boise State University, College of Engineering, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID 83725-2100.
(2) Donate directly through the Foundation online by going to https://give.boisestate.edu/ and searching at the bottom of the page for Fund ID: NR039 “College of Engineering Outreach Fund”.
We will continue to meet for our workshops. Tuesday’s workshop will begin in the HML/Machine Shop area. Other workshops will take place in the Boise State Albertson’s Library. Other meeting locations will be updated shortly; please check the calendar located at http://coen.boisestate.edu/firstrobotics/calendar/ for meeting locations.
