Academic and career advising are integrated for engineering students because there is a strong relationship between the student's educational and career goals. Based on each student's individual circumstances, personal development and skills, advisors provide advice on:
Degree planning, academic requirements, policies and procedures
Career exploration, information and preparation
Exploration of necessary skills, and
Referral to campus resources.
Make the most of your time with your advisor by preparing for each meeting with your advisor.
1. Prepare a list of courses that you are planning to register for.
2. Check that you have met all the prerequisites.
3. Jot down a list of questions you may have regarding: elective course content, transfer course credit, core course requirements, scholarships and or internships.
Also, be sure to ask about the different jobs and employment opportunities available as a Mechanical Engineer. Every ME faculty member has worked in industry or government or both. Your advisor can inform you about what it is like being a practicing engineer and what you need to be successful in your career.
