Wade Schmidt
Currently a Senior in MSE
Wade has been an Intern at Quality Thermistor, Inc. in Boise since 2008. He started with materials optimization and now works as a Process Engineer.
“My favorite thing about the Boise State MSE program are the professors. Most of the professors in the MSE program are more interested in helping actually learn the materials than helping you move on. The professors are challenging and are always there to help when you have questions. They don’t spoon feed you the answers but will point you in the right direction. Another thing that I really like are the number of opportunities there are for the students to obtain jobs relevant to MSE”

Pursuing a law degree at U. of Arizona
“I am currently studing law at University of Arizona and am planning to emphasize in intellectual Property. The BSU MSE program gave me a strong scientific background which will be important in my specialized IP classes and provided me with a well-rounded education and diverse set of skills, giving me the option to pursue a path outside of engineering.”
“While at Boise State I was active in the Honors College, Society of Women Engineers, and several other organizations. I served for two years as an MSE club officer, studied abroad in Granada, Spain, and was able to participate in internships and research both at Boise State and in other locations.”
“My favorite things about the Boise State MSE program were feeling like part of a community and the great student-faculty interaction that takes place within the department.”

Currently an engineer for Puget Sound Navel Shipyard
“In my job, I design, repair, and maintain submarine servicing epuipment. Most of my coworkers are mechanical engineers, and tend to think only about structural performance of new designs. With my materials background, I provide an additional, unique perspective on designs, and find problems (which I then have to solve) that may have been missed by the designer.”
“While at Boise State, I worked in Dr. Frary’s laboratory, was president of the MSE club, worked as a bookkeeper at a resaurant, and owned & Maintained a home.”
“My favorite thing about the MSE department was working in a laboratory. I was exposed to scientific research, performed and presented my own research projects, and learned how to use sophisticated instruments. The best part of working in the lab was the exposure to faculty and fellowship students; I was part of the college of engineering, and not just some student passing through.”
