SHPE Foundation provides several scholarship, internship, research and educational support opportunities throughout the year for Latino/a undergraduate students.
The intent of these programs is to provide students academic and technological capital. Through various functions and events, students are engaged in environments where they will develop and hone their technical knowledge and competency to become the next generation of globally-competitive engineers.
SHPE Foundation provides many program initiatives and supports several partnerships for Latino/a undergraduate students. These include:
- Internships
- Mentorship Programs
- Competitions
Competitions
SHPE Foundation oversees the Academic Olympiad and the Design Competition at the SHPE national conference. The Academic Olympiad is a “Jeopardy”-style competition between one team from each of the seven regions in SHPE. The Design Competition challenges teams to innovate, develop, write and present a prototype for public utilization.
Established in August 2003 as an independent 501(c)(3), the SHPE Foundation.(pronounced a-teams), in partnership with SHPE and other orgnizations, has been working exclusively to develop educational enrichment and academic outreach initiatives, for Latinos/as, that extend throughout the pre-college to PhD pathway.
Funding for SHPE Foundation initiatives is derived from various federal, state, local and private grants and private tax-deductible donations.
The SHPE Foundation is responsible for informing the public about technical careers, internships and educational opportunities; maintaining educational centers; and promoting the interest of students and professionals in educational and charitable pursuits.
The SHPE Foundation has acquired a broad-based consistency for educational enrichment, recruitment and retention programs throughout the country, but each university’s activities are unique and are supported by local SHPE chapters. The SHPE Foundation educational programs are organized into three areas:
- Pre-College Programs
- Undergraduate Programs
- Graduate Programs
