Master of Engineering programs include a comprehensive exam in the final semester.
Master of Science programs include a thesis and an oral defense.

How do I apply for admission to graduate school?
Admission as an engineering graduate student at Boise State University has two components:

admission to the Graduate College
admission to a particular engineering program

You can apply at any time to the Graduate College and to the specific graduate program within the College of Engineering at Boise State University.

Where do I go to find out about financial aid?
Assistantships and Fellowships are awarded by departments and include a stipend and a waiver of fees. In addition, non-resident tuition is waived for any non-resident student who receives an assistantship or fellowship award. You may obtain a Graduate Assistantship Application from the Graduate College or the department for which you are applying.
Other financial aid requires submission of two forms: Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA), and Financial Aid Transcript. Contact the Financial Aid Office at 208-426-1664 for availability of forms and deadlines.

Can I apply for the Gem Non-Resident Tuition Waiver?
The GEM is a nonresident tuition waiver for students who are new, are not residents of the state of Idaho, who are enrolled full-time, and are pursuing a major designated as "high-tech". The eligible program in engineering are: Civil Engineering MS/MEngr; Computer Engineering MS/MEngr; Computer Science MS; Electrical Engineering MS/MEngr; Instructional and Performance Technology MS (on-campus only); Materials Science and Engineering MS/MEngr; Mechanical Engineering MS/MEngr. For continuing full-time students who maintain a 3.00 GPA, the waiver is renewable for two years.

Can I take graduate courses without applying for admission to the Graduate College?
Yes, in most cases, students can take up to two classes before applying for admission. After being accepted in the graduate program, the classes will usually be counted as part of the required coursework for the graduate degree. Please check with the specific engineering graduate program coordinator to verify that they will accept the courses.

Can I take graduate courses and continue to work fulltime?
The College of Engineering tries to offer graduate courses outside of normal working hours to accommodate working students however, this is not always possible. Graduate students can complete a master's in Materials Science & Engineering while continuing to work. The department offers the required MSE grad courses either at 7:40 a.m. or after 4:30 p.m. to accommodate working engineers.
