For a listing of important Graduate Student deadlines please consult: Deadlines for current grad students.

New Engineering Applicants:   If you are a new applicant to the graduate engineering programs, you will need to decide which academic path (Master of Science, or Master of Engineering) best meets your needs.  You may want to contact the graduate program coordinator in your department for guidance in making this decision (see below).  The Master of Science degrees generally require a thesis; the Master of Engineering degrees may be obtained by taking coursework only. During the application process, you will have the option to choose either the Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree program in your department.

To apply as a new student to one of the graduate programs in the graduate college, complete an online application: http://www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/0001.html

Questions about the different degree programs should be directed toward the appropriate graduate coordinator:

PhD Electrical & Computer Engineering: John Chiasson johnchiasson@boisestate.edu
MS Electrical Engineering: Kris Campbell kriscampbell@boisestate.edu
MS Computer Engineering: Scott Smith sfsmith@BoiseState.edu
Civil Engineering: George Murgel gmurgel@BoiseState.edu
Mechanical Engineering: Rudy Eggert reggert@BoiseState.edu
Computer Science: afeldman@BoiseState.edu
Materials Science and Engineering: Bill Knowlton bknowlton@BoiseState.edu
Materials Science and Engineering: Daryl Butt DarrylButt@BoiseState.edu
Instructional and Performance Technology: Linda Burnett lburnett@BoiseState.edu

Current MSE Students:   If you are an existing student already accepted in the MSE program, you may choose from one of two options: 1) apply to the new Master of Science or Master of Engineering program in your respective department, or 2) continue under the requirements of your current major in the Master of Science in Engineering program.

  1. If you decide to change to the Master of Engineering or Master of Science program in your discipline, you will need to complete an application for that specific program.  If you have already been accepted to the university and previously paid the application fee, there will be no charge associated with changing programs.  You can complete the application process in-person at the Graduate Admissions Office in the Math/Geoscience Building Room 141, or online at the following website: https://cedar.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/apply.asp

After acceptance into the program, you will need to work with your assigned advisor to complete a Program Development Form, detailing your planned academic program.  After you have successfully completed 18 credits, you will need to complete your “Application for Admission to Candidacy” and “Completion of Graduate Degree” forms, indicating the specific degree that you are pursuing.
  2. If you choose to remain in the MSE program, you do not need to take any additional action at this time.  You will continue your degree plan as outlined in the Boise State University Graduate Catalog for the year in which you were accepted into the program.

If you have not already completed a Program Development Form, you will need to work with your assigned advisor to accomplish this.  After you have successfully completed 18 credits, you will need to complete your “Application for Admission to Candidacy” and “Completion of Graduate Degree” forms, indicating that you are pursuing the MSE degree in your specific discipline.

If you have any questions about these programs, please feel free to contact one of the College of Engineering Graduate Coordinators that are listed above or consult with your advisor.
