For the past 30 years, this symposium has had a unique mission
to bring together micro/nanofabrication researchers and educators
from universities, government agencies, and industry labs around
the country, not only to present new research results, but also
the programs, collaborations, and laboratories that make them possible.
Representatives of many university micro/nanofabrication labs traditionally
attend UGIM to exchange information. Government agencies such as
NSF, Sematech, DARPA, AFRL and ONR regularly participate. Industry
interactions with universities (often with government support) are
frequently presented. The UGIM Symposia are sponsored by the Electron
Devices Society of the IEEE. The topics to be presented are:
- New initiatives in University microelectronics programs, courses,
or laboratories
- University/Government/Industry collaborative microelectronic
research projects
- Materials, device, simulation, process integration and reliability
research
- Semiconductor process development & manufacturing innovations
- MEMS device, process, and circuit integration research
- Photonic devices, compound semiconductor research
- Biotechnology, lab-on-chip research
- Nanotechnology and nanofabrication research
- Sensors and actuator research
