Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego – Materials Science and Engineering

She came to Boise State University to pursue her dream of playing basketball in the US.  Yaiza is studying Materials Science and Engineering and getting two minors, Physics and Applied Mathematics. In her years playing for the Boise State Women’s Basketball they have won 2 Conference Tournaments and appeared twice in the NCAA Tournament (Big Dance), getting the chance of playing against two of the most historic schools for athletics in the NCAA: Tennessee and UCLA.

In the college of engineering, she made Dean’s List twice and in athletics she broke the university’s record in Carrier Assists with a total of 616 assists. Every year Yaiza has been honored as All-Academic Mountain West. Yaiza got started in basketball early; she lived near Barcelona and participated with the Spanish National team since the age of 12, winning three gold medals for European Championships before coming to Boise State to study Materials Science and Engineering.
