Construction Management Heavy Civil Team takes 2nd Place at the 2018 ASC Regions Competition!

CM Heavy Civil Team that took 2nd Place at the 2018 ASC Regions 6 & 7 Student Competition

Boise State CM’s Heavy Civil team coaches Bruce Larabee and John Stevenson (not pictured) led student members Rich Wiseman, Josh Zigler, Gavin Pointer, Keelan Butler, Kalob Turner, Patrick Baur, Sam Oberting to a second place win in the Region 6 Heavy Civil competition.

This February, The Boise State Construction Management (CM) department took 38 students to the 3-day Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Regional competition in Reno, Nevada. CM students made up teams that competed in Heavy Civil, Commercial, Concrete, Project Management, Sustainability, and Alternates competitions. Boise State CM’s Heavy Civil team brought home a second place win in the Region 6 Heavy Civil competition.

During the competition, teams met with industry problem sponsors and were presented with problem statements and accompanying plans and specifications. Competition teams were given a specific topic at 6 a.m. and  worked until the 10 p.m. deadline to develop and prepare solutions; including a detailed estimate, project schedule, staffing, and safety and sustainability plans. Team presentations began at  7 a.m. the following morning and were graded on the teams’ approach to pre-construction and construction phases of the project and ability to respond to deliverables. Awards were given to teams exhibiting the most comprehensive approach to all aspects of the project.
